The Hebbal Agricultural College was started in 1946. The first batch Graduates came out of the college in 1949. During late 1950s and early 1960s, there were attempts to start the Alumni Association of the Hebbal Agricultural College. But, they were half hearted attempts and there was no success in establishing the Alumni Association. In early1980s, a few senior Alumni who were on the faculty of the Agricultural College came together to start the Alumni Association. As a result, the Alumni Association of the Hebbal Agricultural College was inaugurated in 1983 by Late Sri.B.L.Gowda, the then Minister for Agriculture, Government of Karnataka and Alumnus of the College (1950 batch). Since then, the Alumni Association started functioning. Many senior Alumni and the students of the college actively participated in the programs of the Alumni Association. A very important program of the Association was to honour all the retired teachers of the college once a year. There were also get-together functions for the Alumni to enjoy.
There is a Statutory provision in the UAS Act to establish an Alumni Association of the University. Taking the advantage of this provision, the Alumni Association of the Hebbal Agricultural College was converted into Alumni Association of the UAS, Bangalore in 1989 and was registered with new constitution and rules. The University also recognized the role of the Alumni Association. Further, there was also provision in the Statutes of the University to recommend a panel of five names of the Graduates of the University with five years standing to the Government of Karnataka to nominate one person out of this panel on the Board of Management of the University. The Executive Committee of the Association successfully carried out this responsibility of recommending the panel of five names to the Government, from time to time. The UAS Bangalore was pleased to sanction two acres land at Hebbal campus to the north of Veterinary College for the activities of the Association.
The Executive Committee of the Association mobilized financial resources from the UAS Bangalore, members of the Parliament and the Donor Alumni and the Ministers of the Government of Karnataka to construct the Convention Centre on the land provided by the University for the use of Alumni, Farmers and Students. As the result of the efforts of many senior Alumni and the office bearers of the Executive Committee from time to time, a magnificent Convention Centre is completed in all aspects. A beautiful garden is also developed in front of the Convention Centre. This is a very important landmark in North Bangalore at Hebbal campus. Accommodation is provided at a nominal rate for the visiting Farmers, Students of Agricultural Universities and Officials of the development departments from within as well as outside the State of Karnataka. It is heartening to note that the Alumni Association with such a magnificent building is only one of its kind among all the Agricultural Universities in the Country. The Convention Centre has a conference hall with a seating capacity of 200 and an Auditorium with a seating capacity of 400. It has a meeting hall for the Executive Committee, an office and a small library. The Executive Committee of the Association, organizers seminars, workshops etc from time to time.
The Association arranges a Felicitation function once in a year to felicitate the outstanding Alumni as well as to present the awards for the Best Farmer, Best Research Worker and Best Extension Worker. The Alumni of the UAS Bangalore are welcome to participate in the activities of the Association as well as facilities available by paying nominal rent.
